Wildlife at Breezes River Lodge | Hippos, Elephants & Birds on the Zambezi

Introduction

Most safari lodges require you to get in a vehicle to see wildlife. At Breezes, you sit on your deck with a cup of coffee and the wildlife comes to you.

Hippos

The resident hippos are the unofficial mascots of Breezes. They spend their days in the river, surfacing, grunting and eyeing the boats with magnificent indifference. At night, they come ashore to graze.

Elephants

Elephants regularly move along the Zambezi bank — drinking, crossing, and occasionally deciding that the lodge lawn is a perfectly acceptable place to spend an afternoon.

Crocodiles

The Lower Zambezi has a healthy Nile crocodile population, visible on almost every boat trip.

Birdlife

The Lower Zambezi is exceptional for birdwatching. African fish eagles call from the trees. Giant kingfishers work the shallows.
